Hardly sighted in the race until the final stages grabbing sixth 4.3L at Pakenham Mdn-Sw over 2200m Synthetic. Couldn't bridge the gap on the leaders when fourth after settling a long way back 2.5L at Pakenham 4Yo+ Mdn-Sw over 1200m. Second-up.

Steward's Comments: Raced ungenerously in the early and middle stages. Hung out rounding the home turn. When questioned rider explained the gelding which was resuming from a spell overraced in the early stages however she was able eventually get the gelding to relax and travel comfortably. She added from the 500m her mount was under pressure and failed to quicken and for this reason she maintained her position before eventually shifting to the outside near the 300m and finished the race off strongly.

Steward's Comments: Tightened for room on jumping between Madam Mayhem and Elusive Princess, which shifted out. Hung out severely from the 800m, shifting to the outside fence despite the efforts of its rider. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any obvious abnormality. Trainer Cindy Alderson was notified Howlin’ Rain is now suspended from racing until the gelding performs to the satisfaction of Stewards in a jump out.
