Steward's Comments: Came under pressure near the 1200m and eased down from the 700m. Rider reported failed to muster early pace and had to be ridden along in the early stages however failed to respond to his riding in the middle stages and elected to ease the gelding from the race as he thought something may be amiss. A post-race veterinary examination failed to find any obvious abnormalities. Trainer later advised the gelding was found to have general hock soreness and will be sent for a lengthy spell. A veterinary clearance.

Steward's Comments: Over-raced through the early stages with the saddle shifting forward near the 700m placing rider at a disadvantage with her removing her feet from the stirrups for safety reasons and thereafter took no competitive part in the event. The rider's gear was inspected after the race and found to be in good order. Trainer advised he would experiment with a gear change in an attempt to have the gelding race more tractably in future.
